After 2 1/2 years of development and testing, Joe Saracione is happy to release his latest version of the Mark series salmon reels; the Mark V.
I had the pleasure of talking with Joe about this new reel last week, and you could really tell he is excited about the new line of these sealed drag beauties.
Here is what Joe had to say about the Mark V Salmon reel. “If you liked the Mark IV you are going to love the Mark V. This reel has undergone a complete redesign in every mechanical aspect, while keeping the classic look and style you love. Bronze bushings have been replaced by 4 sets of ball bearings. We updated the drag by replacing the cork drag disc with a high tech carbon fiber disc, and where we had occasional issues with water effecting the drag we now have a totally sealed drag system. By popular demand we have eliminated the vented front side plate for a more classic look. And finally to keep up with the latest lighter weight fly rod designs we have reduced the weight of the Mark V by 20% over its Mark IV predecessor.”
One other item of note which Joe talked about is they have elected not to polish the aluminum exterior. This gives you a classic edge and gorgeous lines on the reel. Not only is this elegant, it also cuts down on the amount of time devoted to each reel, about an hour each.
Joe went on to say if you were to put a Mark IV and a Mark V next to each other the consumer would be hard pressed to see which was polished and which wasn’t, that is how well milled those reels are.
I am really looking forward to holding one of these beauties in my hand.
