Abel buys Ross

In the hushed corners of the fly fishing world we had heard rumors of a possible partnership between Abel and Ross late last year. Those rumors were put to bed in early 2014 as they were confirmed with an email from Jeff Patterson, Director of Sales for Abel.

Jeff indicated that this was a very exciting time for both companies as they work through the logistics and ideas of what this would bring to both legendary reel companies plates.

“Ross and Abel will remain separate companies for both billing and shipping, but the partnership will allow us to bundle both company’s sales volumes for our dealers to achieve an even greater discount,” says Jeff Patterson.

What does that mean to the consumer? Well, possibly a decrease in pricing, increase in research, and a more available inventory so these incredible reels can get into your hands quicker which means you can fish!

This was echoed by President of Abel Don Swanson. “Our achievable goal is to have all Abel products consistently in stock for dealers in our numerous solid finishes, and to also decrease the lead time currently required for fish graphic anodized products.”

Stillwater has already seen a decrease in the amount of time for us to get our hands on solid colored nippers, hemostats and Super Series reels, as well as Ross introducing the “Limited Edition” Gunnison reel.

I caught up with Jeff Patterson at the Spey Clave in Sandy, Oregon a couple weeks ago, and he told me about some very exciting ideas on the fore front with the Mayfly Group; but you will have to wait for these to be officially announced at ICAST in Florida.
